USCIS Policy

Reviewed by Pranav Sai Tirunagiri, Esq. · Last reviewed October 28, 2026

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services publishes policy manuals, alerts, and memos that change how officers review filings. This topic collects newsroom articles that translate those documents into ordinary language. It is not a case-status tool, and it is not a complete archive of every USCIS change.

A policy alert can affect people who already filed, people who have not filed yet, and people waiting on a decision. Enhanced vetting, requests for more evidence, and holds are examples of issues readers ask about. Whether a memo applies to you depends on the form, the date, and the facts. We do not restate processing times here. If an article quotes a USCIS date, that date belongs to the source as of the article, not to a promise we make about your receipt.

We do not guarantee that a hold will lift, that an officer will follow a particular interpretation, or that a new memo will help your case. If USCIS has sent a request for evidence or a notice of intent to deny, or if you are considering naturalization or asylum, use the related practice links and then contact us with the notice in hand.
